One Nation Reading Together is an annual event organized by Scholastic every year across the country to strive to foster the habit of reading and create readers. It is a step in the direction where children display their love for reading. This year, it was organized on November 27, 2015.
The librarian spoke about the programme in the school assembly and students took the pledge written by Sudha Murty, in English and Hindi. The Principal, Vice-Principal, Academic Supervisors, Headmistress, students, staff members and the support staff of CSI participated in this programme for 30 minutes from 12 noon to 12.30 p.m. Different activities were conducted during this time like story narration using puppets, watching panchatantra stories on smart board, finding adjectives and articles from the student edition newspapers, poetry reading, kangaroo words, Read Aloud stories, oration with a signature style of the orator and book mark making apart from some classes who did silent reading.
Ms. Anupama Rawat conducted a story telling session for the support staff members who are illiterate and inspired them to learn to read. The students wrote about their favourite books and authors on the Graffiti Wall poster placed in the library. The Book Donation box was also placed in the library so that children could generously donate books for the underprivileged children.
Programmes like this encourage children to read books and develop a good habit of reading and sharing. This reading programme was enjoyed by the children as they read the books of their own choice. Overall, it was an exciting and enriching experience for all.
